Summer is Almost Here

It is almost SUMMER! Today is Monday, the last "normal" day until the "death" week. "Death" week is the finals week of all of the work of the year. For me, personally, is really hard because I wasn't here in the first trimester, and part of the second trimester, so I needed re-learn all the work from that time. I said good bye to my weekend and created a den of books and papers. My mind is like a tornado. But I am sad to say that this is our last regular A day. I am gonna amiss this. But I will have next year!

Summer is almost here!

When I transferred to Island school I knew that the school year would last 2 weeks longer than other schools until summer. So of course these 2 weeks are nick named the death weeks. We have the finals of the finals. Where you study from all the trimesters of the year. I have to study way harder because I wasn't here in the first trimester or the first half of the second trimester. I am dying!!!

Pray for Oklahoma

There has been a devastating tornado in Oklahoma, people died and the cities were ripped apart. Children were still stuck in school when the biggest recorded tornado had hit. There has been so many bad things that has happened. People have been shot at, placing has been bombed, and people died. Something needs to be done, we are not safe any more.

A Wonderful Weekend

After May Day on friday, I went with a couple of friends to the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. We had so much fun! We went to Kukuiula shopping center before and got a "sushi cake" WE had a blast, we stayed at the pool the whole day, then watched Identity Theif, hung out, ate ALOT of food, and just had so much fun! The next day we did the same thing. We didnt get out of the pool until 7:00 pm. Then we went to Lapperts to have some ice cream. The next day was rainy, so my friend came over and we had a glee marathon, baked cookies, and had a "photoshoot". Lets just say I had a pretty good weekend, I wish that it was just longerrrrr

Hacking Competition

Most people think that hacking is bad, in some cases it is bad. Bad hackers are called crackers. Those kind of hackers hack into stores, banks, etc, and take money clothes, etc from that site. Some sites or programs hires hackers to try to break into their systems to see if they have strong firewalls and codes.
There is a new game or competition about hacking. Our school's tech classes are competing in it. Its all about breaking and solving codes, looking for certain sequences in numbers and more. Its actually  super fun! The name is Toaster Wars, I am pretty sure we need to get a robot into outer space, but I dont really know. The winners are based on points and the winners get 4,000 dollars! Its so cool!

Cheeseballs

I have discovered the best food in the whole world:
Cheeseballs.
They combine the great tasting food that is cheese into like bite size circular shapes that make your day the happiest it can be.
Last week I turned thirteen. On that magical day I was wondering through Safeway looking for some snacks for the weekend. I saw them and needed them. Later that weekend when I was playing some games with friends, we used the cheese balls. We played this game where you had to throw the cheese balls up and catch them in your mouth and like the first one to get it to 10 won. Or we set up cups on a window cill and the first person to get 5 or 10 cheese balls in the cup won. They are so fun and just the perfect treat.

What has this world become?

You go to a movie, you get shot.
You go to school, you get shot.
You run a marathon, you get bombed.
What has this world become?
This isn't right. People shouldn't randomly get bombed. People died and others got injured. The irony of it all was the topic of the Boston Marathon was support for all the children from Connecticut. So people were running for the deaths of the children, but ended up running for their own lives. Its just not right. #prayforboston.

Happy To Be Back

After weeks of traveling, I am finally home. On March 26, my mom and I flew 9 hours from Kauai to New York. It took FOREVER! After a couple days in New York we flew to Minnesota for some doctors appointments. We spent a week in Minnesota. On the last day I visited my cousins. It was so nice to see family and just have fun! I miss New York and Minnesota but I am so happy to be on Kauai.

Tall-ness

In New York, I got to see some of my cousins that I have never met, or that I haven't seen in a while. I saw 2 of them. Joe and Noah. Joe is 17 and is repeating his junior year at Hill school. He is 6,7 and is crazy about basketball. He is repeating his junior year because he wants to get recruited by the NBA. Noah is 26 and is a CEO of a non-profit organization to help basketball players from Senegal to get scholarships to play in the US. Noah is also a basketball player and is 6,9. My cousins amaze me, they are SUPER tall but both love the same thing. They are like younger and older versions of each other. Its so amazing to see family.

New York Day 1

Well I guess this is better than school, I love your class by the way Mr. Evslin. I got here in New York at 6:30 am after a 9 hour flight. So in Kauai time I left Kauai at 1:30, got to Oahu and left there at about 3:30. Next I had the dreadful 9 hour flight all the way across the Pacific Ocean and the whole country to New York. The flight had very little turbulence and was a good flight in the end. The only problem was that I got about 12 minutes of sleep! Being tired and jet lagged though shall not hold me down. Get ready New York!

Global Warming

The earth is heating up, no one can say that is isn't. Today on science we watched a video about global warming and the effects that we are having from it. If the earth keeps heating up, glaciers would fall and the ocean would rise 20 ft! Thats only Greenland, but if Antartica's glaciers fell the ocean would rise the same amount. Greenhouse gases are killing us, slowly. There is so much pollution going around. Air pollution, water pollution, and more. Hurricanes and storms are increasing in size and in appearance. They are showing up in places where scientists thought that they couldn't. We have to do something or else in 50 or 70 years, there may not be very much that we can protect.

Cold Weather

This morning I woke up and it was 54 degrees outside! We should all move someplace warm like HAWAII. Hahaha. Anyways it feels like we live in Alaska, not Hawaii. Most people pack bathing suits and sun hats to go to Hawaii, not big jackets and boots. I know that clouds are kinda like blankets. When there are no clouds there are no blankets so it gets super cold. Today was one of those days. I come to school shivering with jeans, boots, and jackets. Since its so cold here I'm wondering how cold it is on the mainland where it actually snows. Nobody would ever think that Hawai would get below 60 on flat ground. But I guess its a new year!

Whale Watching

Boats are fun. Especially big boats, that you wont get seasick on. But once in a while you will get seasick. Last Sunday Swim Kauai Aquatics went on a beginning of the year whale watching trip. Our swim team is the best because throughout the seasons of the year. In whale season we go whale watching, in the later spring we go zip lining and much more. We always have a blast in the pool and out of it. FUNFUNFUN!

Baby, its cold outside

You'd think that in Hawaii, theres sun, no rain or cloudy days. It turns out that Hawaii can get rainy and cloudy, and down to 58 degrees. Its been super cold and cloudy. Then it gets sunny. But the coldest day is the day with no clouds or rain. When there are no clouds in the sky and no wind to block the cold. It gets super cold and you have to wear big jackets and jeans to survive. Even then your fingers freeze. Everything is wet even though it hadn't rained. Its all condensation. Thats why this morning when I was out playing 4-square, I couldn't feel my fingers. There was a rule that we couldn't let the ball roll into the wet grass. It would be great if we could roast marshmallows by an open fire while drinking hot chocolate as a class. Even the air conditioned rooms were warmer than outside. This has been the coldest winter that I can remember.

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"

People say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But not everyone can wake up with eggs that are pre made with a side of bacon, fruit cocktail, and a smoothie. People fantasize about huge chocolate pancakes with whipped cream and a strawberries. I wish I could always have the biggest and best breakfast in the whole world. I personally think that lunch and dinner are the most important meals. Lunch is in the middle of the day that gets you through and revives you for the rest of the day. Dinner reminds you of the great day you have had, with lunch, and the great sleep your going to have. Dinner also includes dessert, which is always amazing. I know most dessers are not very healthy, but considering the great day that you had, dessert is necessary.

The Dangers

When people join swim team, they usually think that you cant get hurt, like its not a very aggressive sport like football. Your not trying to knock someone over or breaking bones or whatever you have to do to win the game. Swimming is mostly an individual sport. You sometimes do relays and you usually swim on a swim team with others, but when your racing, your probably alone. A couple days ago I had a swim meet. It really shook me up. I dont remember a lot of that meet. You know why? I hit my head, hard, on the wall turing into a flip turn. Heres the scene. I jump into the water to start my 5 out of 6 races that day. The water was freezing but the sun was bright. I tightened my goggles to make sure they stayed on, I should have done a better job. When I arched my back dove into the blue water, my goggles opened and water rushed in. I couldn't see a thing. I was still swimming when i decided to do a flip turn. I turned around going into freestyle and BAM. I hit my head on the pavement. I didn't black out or drown or anything like that. But lets just say that I hope I remember what I need for midterms.

Gadgets Galore

Its amazing how our electronics have evolved  over time. We went from no phone, to house phone, to satellite phone, to having keypads and buttons, to then have all these additions. We now think a good neighbor is one to have free wifi, not a nice greeting or anything. Everyone needed the "new" and "better" phones or electronic devices more than anything.  We all wanted the ones who took the best pictures or had the slimmest look or even the one who could download apps. Apps, little applications that you can access through your phone that includes games or social networking sites. I just can't believe how someone would think of those things. Its just amazing.

We're worlds away.

Its amazing how our minds think, how we think that where we live is SO big. How we think that the world is huge, and how malls or houses are big. Its amazing how wrong we are. We are spinning in outer space around the sun with other planets orbiting too. With comets or meteors that might or will run straight into us. Our atmosphere has kept away some meteors, but only the fragments of fragments of fragments of fragments of fragments of the meteor that was classified as a small meteor. We are constantly in danger of everything that could hit us. Its also amazing how our technology has gotten us to the point when we can track the big meteors that would total us.†We are out in this world and completely unaware. Its just amazing.

Hawaii

When you say to people, "Oh I live in Hawaii" , people expect so much. they think that we always have a good time, going to the beach everyday, having the perfect tan, drinking coconuts, climbing up trees to get our food, eating only tropical fruits, sleeping in hammocks, that everyone surfs, and we all hula. We are just like regular people, just living in a different place. Kids go to school, parents work, it a very basic life. The only unusual thing is that we are in the middle of the pacific ocean. Sure its sunny most in the time here, I'm not trying to say that Hawaii is not an amazing place to live, but its just not the place that everyone says it is. We have coconuts, not everyone likes it, we have tropical fruit. We have beaches everywhere and waterfalls and a lot of rain. Hawaii is an amazing place to live, but we just don't have our own dolphins and go to water school and live in grass huts.

First A Day

A days and B days sometime confuse me, of course it does cause its my 2nd day. But I know for a fact that its a A day. Tech class was the most interesting class so far. I was in a media class at my old school but this is way better and different. School is surprisingly so much more fun here than in a public middle school. I bet that sounds super weird. But three weeks out of school makes people get not as smart as they should be. Yesterday was my first day, I have to say that school is nice and fun.

break is ovveerrr

Another dawn, another school day. I guess not all breaks seem long or last long in our minds. It seemed like yesterday when we were about to leave for our break. And yet its already over. Everyone fantasies about going to the beach everyday all day, seeing friends all day, going to different places that are not where you live, staying up late and not getting tired, and just having a time that you "deserve" for being in school for so long. We even have the worst weather  today, yesterday, and a long time before that. Huge winds, high surf, rain and clouds. Clouds everywhere, almost not a patch if sunlight. Like a flashing in a lot of fog or smoke. It was cold and we couldn't go anywhere, just waiting for the storm to pass. For some people its better to be at school doing something than just staying at home, at least this way you can see your friends and have a good time. Even though break is over it just gives us more to hope for, for the next break. For it to be bigger and better.
